Connections
The MA400 features XLR THRU jacks and provides superb noise-free operation. Just connect your mic to the MIC INPUT and send a line from the MIC THRU to your main mixer. You can even use studio-grade condenser mics, as the MA400 will pass +48 V phantom power, if your mixer is so equipped. The PHONES jacks accept both 1/4" and 1/8" headphone and earbud connections, making the MA400 ideal for hardwired IEM (in-ear-monitor) applications, such as singing drummers and keyboardists. The MA400 comes with a 12 V DC power supply and an LED to indicate when it is powered up.
Masterful Monitor Mixing
Capable of stereo or mono operation, the MA400 is a powerful little mixer that allows you to control two independent sources, a microphone and the monitor feed from your main mixer. Simply adjust the MON LEVEL control to a comfortable setting and then dial in all the "me" you want with the MIC LEVEL control.
Small and Superb
The MA400 is an ideal solution for the "more me" syndrome. Small enough to fit in your pocket - with a price tag to match - check out the MICROMON MA400 at your BEHRINGER dealer today.

Now, the sound quality is fine. I noticed nothing significant about the quality of sound, except that is not exceptionally powerful. Listening to myself on headphones using a sure SM-58 dynamic mic, I must turn the mic volume control all the way up just to get it 90% of what I would like.
I do wish it had more amplification. Personally, I think wherever you have a dedicated amplifier driving headphones, it ought to be perfectly capable of blowing up any pair of headphones, if it is needed. I like to have power in reserve. Headroom, I think it's called. This thing needs it.
If you're curious, the Mic in and Mic thru connections are wired in parallel... so this box will have zero impact on your sound being recorded, no matter how fancy a microphone you are using. I'm unsure how well it will work with condenser mics. I think they put out a higher level signal... might make things better.
And, it needs a power switch. It doesn't hurt to leave it on, because it doesn't get warm at all, and there's nothing going to wear out, but it's still just one of those things... got to have a switch...
I tried it with a decent 12V 1A regulated linear power supply and it's small power supply with no difference noted. Their small power supply does not radiate noise, like a switching supply, so it must have a transformer. It doesn't have regulation, either - a check with a DMM revealed 21.1 V, while my 'regulated' power supply measured 12.1V. To the junk box with the MA400's power supply. Luckily, I have other power supplies. Perhaps under the load of the op amps in the MA400's circuitry, it'll drop to 12V or so - or, more likely, it doesn't really matter. I'll run mine off 12V just the same. In any case, I'd buy it again in a heart beat!
I replaced the side-fill with an MA400 and a pair of MDR-7506 headphones. The drummer loves the clarity he gets as well as the ability to turn his monitor volume up or down without having to get the attention of the sound guy.
We didn't used to mic the drum kit (except for the kick), but now we place a single overhead on the kit. We don't run this to the house, but when the drums get too loud, the sound guy turns up the drum mic in the drummers cans until he backs off a bit. Works like a charm.
We don't run a mic-through the MA400 for the drummer, but I am purchasing another unit today for one of the vocals to try out. We'll run the mic through for that purpose to give her the ability to turn herself up or down.
I normally shy away from Behringer gear because I've found it to be less-than-transparent and typically a bit bright sounding. I have not found that to be the case with the MA400. It sounds clear, appropriately punchy, and without added high-end that I normally hear from Behringer products.

Separate volume controls for own input as well as aux from mixers.
Value for money for one who is not moving around in the stage.
