What Our Customers Are Saying

Don’t just take it from us, let our customers do the talking!

“Colin is the man when it comes to helping you launch a podcast or improving your podcasting skills. The online courses were invaluable and his advice along the way superb.” Andrew Hart

Financial Advisor

“The Podcast Host made my podcast launch possible. I overcame a lot of my fears early on. I highly recommend The PodCast Host to anyone. I owe The PodCast Host a tremendous debt of gratitude.” Arjay

Director, The Digital Wealth Digest Podcast

“I only have great things to say about The Podcast Host. Not only in the quality of their production work, but also with their knowledge and insights around technology, equipment & advice in podcasting.” Richard Brown

Director, The Property Voice

“As someone who literally had no idea how to go about starting a podcast I am so glad I found Colin! If I hadn’t signed up for the Producer Package then I know I would have become completely overwhelmed and would never have managed to bring my podcasting plans to fruition. I’m going to be honest and say that I worried about the monthly cost but I can safely say that it is indeed money well spent. The time I have saved trying to learn to do all of the things that Colin took off my hands has been spent creating good content and building my platform. Colin and the team have a great system going. Everything is streamlined and easy and [the team are] there as a mentor throughout. If you want to concentrate on creating great content for your show, hire the Podcast Host to worry about everything else!” Julie Christie

Frequently Asked Questions

The Partner Package

Q: How Many Episodes does the Partner Package Include Per Month?

Our standard package is set up to handle a weekly podcast, but we also do bi-weekly, or twice per month. The main package generally means 4 episodes per month, and 5 every now and again when the weeks require it.

Q: How Long can my Episodes Be?
We generally account for episodes of around 30 to 45 minutes. We believe that 30 minute episodes work well for most contexts, but, of course, it depends a lot on what you’re doing. Shorter is often better, so if you can fit it into 15 minutes then that’s great. Or, if you can engage people for an hour or more, that’s excellent too. If you want to go much longer, then get in touch – we’re happy to talk about custom packages to accommodate something a little different.
Q: How Reliable is Your Service? What's the Team Like?
A: This is one of the particular areas in which we stand out. Unlike one-man-bands offering production services, we guarantee to delivering reliable service every single week, regardless of sickness or holidays. After all, if you tell your audience that your show is coming out at 9am every Wednesday morning, then it needs to hit that mark. We can account for holidays, for sickness, for unexpected occurences, because we’re a team. We’re growing, too, and will do even faster if you come on board! If your normal contact is busy, sick, or otherwise, you’re not going to go on hold. We’ll get your episode finished on schedule.
Q: What if I want to do more than 4 Episodes Per Month?
A: We’re happy to work out custom plans for you if you want to record more than a weekly episode. If you’re looking to go daily, then that’s even more reason to outsource your editing, and we’re certainly here to help. Get in touch to have a chat about custom production services.
Q: What Do You Do on Each Episode?
We tailor the process for every podcast – everyone’s a little different after all – but here’s a general idea of what we do:

  1. We take a copy of all of your audio files (up to 5 per episode)
  2. We take your notes on what you want included, what you want cut, and what order it should be in.
  3. We take your written show notes, including a 1 paragraph intro to the episode.
  4. We chop up the audio to your specifications, according to your notes
  5. We add title music, outro music, and audio transitions between each segment
  6. We produce the audio to make it sound sweet – EQ, compression, etc, as needed
  7. We export the finished episode and include all the necessary ID3 details, including a description (remember that 1 paragraph intro from earlier?)
  8. We upload the audio to your media hosting space
  9. We create a page on your website for the episode and include the audio file for playing there.
  10. We publish the audio file on your website as a podcast episode, adding it to your RSS feed.

A good rule of thumb is that this takes us around 1 hour. We’re pretty practiced at making it fast :) Some episodes are more, and some are less, but that’s a decent average.

Q: How Much Editing of my Recordings is Included in this Package?
A: As standard, we can take up to 5 separate audio recordings and stitch them together into your episode. We always top and tail each clip as standard – that means taking off the silence, or the extra bits that aren’t part of the show, at the start and end. You just need to have a listen and tell us where each file starts and ends, by time. We can do a little extra editing as needed, such as cutting out some parts from inside the audio file. If you make a false start and have to redo a section at 10 mins and 25 seconds in, you can let us know, and we’ll cut it out. All you need to do is give us exact timings of where you want to cut, eg. “From 10 minutes and 25 seconds to 11 minutes and 12 seconds”. We can do these extra internal cuts up to 10 times for each episode.
Q: What are the Timescales for producing a show?
To make sure everything goes to plan, we need to work to certain timescales when producing your podcast. Here’s the plan. We’ll aim to work 1 week ahead at all times. This means that we’ll have your episode finished and published in a ‘Scheduled’ state 1 week before it’s due to go live. This advanced planning is essential for a few reasons, not least incase you have an unexpected emergency, illness or otherwise. You’ll have a 1 week buffer in this case, and we’ll look to catch up ASAP following it. We commit to being able to produce your episode within a week of receiving your files and instructions. This means that we need everything at least 2 weeks ahead of publication date. You send us the files, and we’ll start the work. We’ll need you to be available to at least answer an email around half way through that week. This is because often there are questions or little discrepancies and we need to make sure we can clarify them with you half way through the editing week.
Q: But I'm broadcasting news - I can't be 2 weeks in advance!
Some shows do need to be really c urrent – we understand that. In that case, a 2 week period between sending us the show and getting it live just doesn’t work. We can work to shorter timescales if needed, and we’re happy to talk to you about a custom package in that case. Get in touch!
Q: What About my Ums and Ehhs....?
We’re happy to take out as many of these as you like as part of your normal 10 internal edits per episode, but we don’t go through and remove every single one as standard. If this is something you’re really keen to have done, we can definitely work something out as a custom package. It’s a long process to do it for an entire show, and make it sound good. Instead, this is something that we’ll work with you to remove from your speech in the first place. As you Podcast more, you’ll learn to stop uming and ahing, and it’ll happen even quicker with our help. There’s nothing like listening to yourself do that for a few episodes to improve your speaking style quick-smart!
Q: What do I Need to do in the Process?
A: Good question. While we’ll be taking on the grunt work, there are still a few things we need from you.

  1. Audio recordings – we need you to create amazing content in audio file form, and send them through to us!
  2. Editing notes – we need you to write down instructions on what’s in and what’s out. Tell us what order the audio files go in, where they start and finish, and any sections that need chopped out.
  3. Show notes – It’s up to you what you put in your show notes, but the minimum requirement is a short description of the episode, perhaps 50 to 100 words. This goes on the episode page and in the description field on the audio file. Ideally, you’ll write a 300 to 400 word page including this description plus a little about the resources and people you talked about during the episode. Have a look here for an example.
Q: Can you take care of the show notes too?
A: Yes, we can indeed. We know that show notes are a pretty big pain for podcasters. They take a lot of time to put together! Because of that, the cost depends heavily on your format, your show length and a few other factors. So, if you’re interested in this, get in touch, and we’ll work out a package.
Q: Can You Get Good Intro Music for my Podcast?
A: The standard package includes the option for us to source some standard royalty free music for you. This will be a track from a normal music library that you can use on your show, and would normally be played either as an intro by itself, or perhaps with you speaking over it. It’s possible that these tunes can crop up elsewhere on the web or on other podcasts, but it’s not that likely since there is such a large choice.

The second option is to commission custom professional intros and outros from a professional FX production company we partner with. This includes a much more exclusive high quality piece of music, a professional voiceover introducing your show and plenty of processing and FX to make it really stand out from the crowd. This costs around £140/$200.
There’s no requirement at all for the latter – it’s really just an optional extra for those that want to really invest in their audio branding, getting something really pro right out of the gate. Most of the time I’d recommend going for the free, standard option for the first wee while and then upgrading if it becomes obvious the show is working for you.
