Podcast coaching: At-a-Glance

  • There are loads of ways to learn podcasting – from doing your own Google research, to buying a book or course
  • Another option is to hire your very own podcast coach
  • This is often the most expensive route, but can also be the most effective
  • If you’re looking for an excellent podcast coaching option right away, check out Castos’ Podcast Launch Services
  • Or read on to get more options, and to learn more about the pros and cons of podcast coaching…

There’s no shortage of ways to learn how to start and run your own podcast.

For example, a simple Google search will turn up more info than you’ll ever need, and it won’t cost you a penny. That’s potentially how you ended up on this article. Or, on our step-by-step ‘how to start a podcast’ guide.

Of course, the downside for many with the search approach is the amount of time needed to sift through masses of info. Sometimes you’ll find contradicting advice, so how do you decide who’s right, and who’s wrong? And is an article on media hosting written in, say, 2018 still relevant today?

There are other ways to learn the craft of podcasting that will cost you some money, but can save you a lot of time.

You might buy a podcasting course and work through it at your own pace, as well as your own convenience. With a course, you know that the info you’ll get will be linear and consistent throughout. They’re often very actionable, too.

Alternatively, you might pick up a book about podcasting. This can be a convenient and flexible way to learn on-the-go, without needing to spend more time sitting at your computer.

The third option is to hire your very own podcast coach. Let’s take a look at what that actually means, and whether or not it sounds like a good fit for you.

Podcast Coaching

Hiring a podcast coach is the premium way of getting help with all aspects of your content. Your podcast coach will become your mentor. They’ll guide you through the processes and past the pitfalls. Any questions you have, they can answer. They’ll keep you motivated and accountable.

It’s going to cost you more, because you’re paying a podcast coach for their time, as well as their knowledge and expertise.

Whether or not paying for podcast coaching is the right option for you, will depend on your own needs, learning preferences, and budget.

Potential Pros of Hiring a Podcast Coach

  • They can walk you through the entire process of launching and growing.
  • You’ll always get answers to your podcasting questions – no matter how small or specific.
  • You can save money by choosing the right gear, hosting, and software for your needs, without trial and error.
  • You can save a lot of time searching for the information you need.
  • You can save time and frustration by avoiding common mistakes and pitfalls.
  • You can achieve a more professional-sounding show from episode 1.
  • They can help you optimise your podcast for growth, right from the start.
  • You’re more likely to focus only on tasks that really move the needle.
  • They can help set you up with a sustainable workflow that keeps you podcasting.
  • They can help you stay motivated and accountable.

Potential Cons of Hiring a Podcast Coach

  • You still need to spend time and do research finding the right podcast coach for you.
  • Hiring a podcast coach can be costly.
  • There can be scheduling issues to find times to meet, depending on your timezone, and the timezone of your podcast coach.

How Do I Hire a Podcast Coach?

Podcast coaching was something we offered for many years here at The Podcast Host. We worked with scores of clients on a one-on-one basis, helping them to develop their ideas and ambitions into fully fledged podcasts with engaged followings.

We no longer offer one-on-one podcast coaching ourselves, preferring to dedicate our full efforts towards Podcraft Academy. There, we run weekly live group Q&A sessions alongside our courses on every aspect of running and growing a show. This helps keep the cost down for people who want to work with us, and it allows them to work away at their own time and convenience.

An option for finding your own one-on-one podcast coach, is to listen to podcasts about podcasting. Many of the folks behind these shows offer podcast coaching in some form or other. The downside here, of course, is that it can add a bit of research and setup time onto your schedule. There are a lot of podcast coaches and content creators out there.

We know from experience that many of you like to be pointed in the direction of one single recommended route. With that in mind, we’re going to link to one of the most comprehensive podcast coaching options out there right now – Castos.

Castos are one of the top hosting platforms on the market, but they do a lot more than hosting. They also offer editing, production, and fully-fledged Podcast Launch Services which combines all of this, along with mentorship and guidance.

A heads up that our Castos link is an affiliate, so we’d earn a commission if you signed up via it. Rest assured though that we only make recommendations we have 100% trust in, and the folks at Castos really do know the podcasting medium inside out.
